Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain - Pre-Instruction

I'm determined to finally start and finish some of my many drawing books, one at a time. I figure I need the basics (and the development of the  "artist's eye") the most at the beginning, so I'm starting with Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.

Here's my pre-instruction drawings, to gauge my starting point before I work through the rest of the book. I feel pretty good about them actually! Then again, I've been drawing for a "little while" so I'm not a complete noob.

Specifically, I "know about" drawing with 3D form instead of just 2D shape, some basic rules of perspective, and guidelines for drawing both the head and hand. The difference between "knowing about" them and "knowing/understanding" them is that you gain true understanding through practicing what you "know about"! Here's to finally going through one of my many books and learning everything I can from it!

Introduction Video

Hey! I just started uploading the first of my video series. Here's the proper video introduction:

Please excuse me as I'm super new to all this, but I hope the messages are clear enough that the video/audio quality isn't a huge deal.

Gesture Drawings From the Past Month

Here's some gesture drawings I've done in the past month. Some good, some rather derpy.

I particularly liked #20! To me it seems like a gesture a good few steps beyond my current skill...FORESHADOWING!?

Humble Beginnings

Hi! Welcome to Spiral Soul Artist. Glad to have you here.

My name is David, and I'm a terrible artist. A wannabe artist.

I'm going to change 'wannabe' to 'gonnabe'.

This blog exists for a few reasons.

1: To track my progress from fairly low art skill to professional level.
2: To share that progress and my experiences on this path with you.
3. To teach you how to draw as I learn how to myself.
4. To encourage and inspire you to take a leap of faith into whatever you've always wanted to do.

It's not going to be easy for me, but I know that everything will work itself out in due time. So join me on this ever-(upwards!)spiraling path to a better, more fulfilling life!
